1982 Topps is a 792-card set. Known as the "hockey stick" set, '82 Topps was the largest baseball card set they had ever produced to that point, and the 66 extra cards eliminated the practice of "double printing" of cards.
Cards 1-6 depict Highlights of the strike-shortened 1981 season, cards 161-168 picture League Leaders, and there are subsets of AL (547-557) and NL (337-347) All-Stars (AS). The abbreviation "IA" in the checklist is given for the 40 "In Action" cards that are scattered throughout this set.
The team cards are actually Team Leader (TL) cards picturing the batting average and ERA leader for that team with a checklist back. All 26 of these cards were available from Topps on a perforated sheet through an offer on wax pack wrappers.
Notable Rookie Cards include Brett Butler, Chili Davis, Cal Ripken Jr., Lee Smith, and Dave Stewart.
