This 700-card standard size set was the first football card set produced by Upper Deck. The set was released in two series with the first series containing 500 cards and the high-number series containing 200 cards. A Darrell Green insert (SP1) and an insert card commemorating Don Shula's historic 300th NFL victory (SP2) were randomly inserted in first and second series packs respectively. Two Promo cards were released to preview the set. Series One cards can be found printed with three different Upper Deck anti-counterfeiting holograms on the back: the standard 1990 style with only the words "Upper Deck" visible, the 1991 hologram that includes "91" printed on it upside down, and the 1992 hologram that features a diamond shaped Upper Deck logo.
